Dixon Apparel
Meet the Founders of Dixon Apparel, Heather and Kim
THE/STUDIO: Introduce yourself. Tell our readers a little bit about who you are!
Heather and Kim: Our names are Heather Harvey and Kim Goldberg and we own the online and traveling store, Dixon Apparel. We met a year and a half ago in Los Angeles where we both got employed to be fit models at the same company. We soon came to find out that we were from the same hometown in Ocean City, MD. We even went to the same High School and had some of the same friends but didn’t know each other until we met 9 years later and 3,000 miles away. We also both had the same sense of comfortable style and goofball personalities but hard work ethics. It has been a business partner match made in heaven ever since! We literally just work and laugh all day! They should have a business partner matchmaking site…maybe our next business plan haha!
THE/STUDIO: What a wonderful story! That is absolutely fate! What does your business do?
Heather and Kim: We carry men’s and women’s clothing. Our motto is A Touch of the South on the Edge of the West. Essentially our clothes are a more modern take on southern style. Think very Rockabilly/ Urban Cowgirl! Our company is primarily located online but we also travel with our store so we can bring the clothes to the people. We are all about shopping in a fun environment. We started booking our “One Night Stores” at live music venues and country nights at bars across Southern California. This quickly evolved into us booking a “tour” much in the sense of a band. Our first stop was Shaky Boots Fest in Atlanta Georgia on May 16th and 17th. We set up a store outdoors in a tent and people attending the festival came over to check out our clothes and play a little cornhole. It is so great to meet your customers in person… and have a drink with ’em! Bonding at it’s finest!
THE/STUDIO: What a great concept! I love it! What have you learned since starting your business?
Heather and Kim: We have learned in our first year of business that everything isn’t as easy or cheap as it seems. You kind of find out as you go about all the different taxes and insurances and fees that you have to take care of. We both just jumped in feet first with a no turning back attitude. Taking it one day at a time.
THE/STUDIO: What about your business are you most proud of?
Heather and Kim: We are most proud that we reach the goals that we set! We said we wanted to travel with the store, so we’re doing it!
THE/STUDIO: Where do you see your business in 10 years?
Heather and Kim: In 10 years we hope to have expanded our brand. Possibly have a traveling clothing truck. We want to be a household name but we don’t want to be mass produced. We do grass roots/word of mouth marketing because we really believe in our products, style, character and fair pricing. We want to keep it that way while we grow!
THE/STUDIO: What type of legacy do you want to leave?
Heather and Kim: We want to leave a legacy of being a fun interactive store! We want our customers to be really involved and a part of this as it grows. Always have character and stay involved.
THE/STUDIO: What is the story behind the custom product that you produced with THE/STUDIO?
Heather and Kim: We made patches with our logo the through THE/STUDIO so we could put them on hats. Hats are a great way to get your name out there. I pretty much read everyone’s hat and if I like it I ask where they got it or what the brand they’re wearing is.
THE/STUDIO: Do you have any promotions you would like to offer our community?
Heather and Kim: If you were kind enough to read about our little store, we would love to off you free shipping on all orders until October 1st. Use promo code “ireadit” at checkout!
THE/STUDIO: Do you have any upcoming events that our community members can attend?
Heather and Kim: If any members are in Southern California June 6th we will have a booth set up at OakHeart Country music festival featuring Easton Corbin then September 4,5,6,7th we will be in Pepsi Gulf Jam in Panama City Beach. Stop by and say hi!!
